Balkan trip 7 - Ljublana

Our time in civilized Slovenia is getting short. But we are not leaving it yet. We move from Lake Bohinj to the capital, Ljubljana.
Ljublana - Petkovškovo nabrežje

In the morning the lake welcomed us with amazing scenery. The clouds dropped so low that they almost touched the surface and the whole thing was enhanced by the blue sky and the shining sun.
Bohinj - Good morning Slovenia

As I wrote in the introduction, we are planning to move to Ljubljana. It doesn't offer much in itself, so we will take advantage of the fact that we have to leave the camp at 12 o'clock. This gives us enough time to relax by the lake and slowly pack all our things. Even the tents are dry enough for us.

Before twelve we return the signs from the tents to the reception and go to the bus stop. The bus arrives on time and, as we discover on the way, we are on a bus that sweeps all the villages. So we arrive in Ljubljana at two o'clock. From the bus we go straight to Fastfood Ajda, where we have lunch.
Ljublana - Lunch

After a hearty and tasty lunch, we grab our stuff and head to our accommodation, C-Punkt hostel, which was strategically close to the city centre. We're only here for one night, so we don't even get too settled in and head straight into the city centre for some sightseeing. Our first steps are towards Trubarjeva cesta, which is a narrow street full of hipster cafes and restaurants. Another typical feature is the numerous graffiti. The street intersects with Resljeva cesta. A short distance from this crossing is the Dragon Bridge, which features prominently in the city's promotional material.
Ljublana - Trubarjeva cesta

Trubarjeva cesta ends at Prešernov trg Square, where, in addition to the Franciscan Church, there is a tri-bridge that contains three bridges over the Ljublanica River, lying close to each other.

On the opposite shore, Pogačarjev trg Square, a beach volleyball tournament is taking place, so it is crowded and space is limited. We watch the game for a while and continue to the next square, Vodnikov trg, which is quieter. There is a market here, but no one is here today. What is here, however, are the souvenir shops, which we visit and partly redeem. We continue along Ciril-Metodov trg and Mestni trg, which are again streets full of restaurants and cafes, and compared to Trubarjev's road, it is much more lively here.

We reach Stari trg, where the fountain of Hercules stands in the middle. Besides, one of the paths to Ljublani Castle leads here, which we will then go to.
Ljublana - Stari trg

It's a bit of an uphill climb. Originally a medieval castle, it is a landmark of Ljubljana and served as the residence of the lords during its lifetime. Later it became a military fortress with a prison and today it is used for various social events. Besides, it offers a nice view of the city.

This has crossed everything off our must see list. We walk down to the centre and have Ramen for dinner at a bistro on Trubarjeva cesta. Then we'll just hang out wherever our feet take us.

Ljublana - Ciril-Metodov trg

We end our tour of the centre with a longer visit to a volleyball tournament where some Czechs were playing and once they won their match, we went to our accommodation. It was so hot in there and in the city in general that I fell asleep with a blanket under my head, and stayed that way until I woke up. Tomorrow we have a big crossing south to Northern Macedonia.
