Balkan trip 9 - N. Macedonia - Ohrid

Originally we were supposed to visit Ohrid yesterday and today we were supposed to go to see the Bay of Bones, but a previous traffic complication that delayed us resulted in us reaching Ohrid only today.

After a two-day travel marathon, we needed to recharge our batteries, which meant that we were not operational until around ten o'clock. Our first steps were towards the lakeside promenade, which was still not that crowded at this time. We took a few photos of the lake and town from the pier and went to sit down at the nearest restaurant for breakfast.
After breakfast, we walked along the wooden pier/walkway to the most famous monument of Ohrid. This is the church of St. Jovan Kaneo. It is characterized by the fact that it towers nicely over the lake, which leads to its photogenic character.

Afterwards we continue to Labino beach, where we plan to spend some time swimming in the lake. But like everything else in this town at this time, it is quite crowded and it was a problem to find a free place. Moreover, Labino beach is in a cliff and there is not much space here, even if there is not a foot.

We bathe until about three and then return to the promenade the same way and go straight to the dock to see if there is still a boat to the Bay of Bones, which is a former fishing village with an authentic look. Unfortunately, this was a naive idea and we learn on the spot that it's a day trip. As a consolation prize we are intrigued by the Armada boat, providing a night cruise on the lake, we take advantage of this and buy tickets in advance.
The cruise doesn't start until seven. In the meantime, we will have dinner at the pedestrian zone Makedonski Prosvetiteli, which we will walk around after dinner. At the end of it, Zanet meets a stray female she photographed on our first visit to this place in 2019. We spend the rest of the time before the cruise relaxing and getting ready in the room.
Before 7:00 p.m., we're heading for the dock. At the entrance we get a welcome drink in the form of a glass of champagne. Once we are settled and it is seven o'clock, we set sail and enjoy a night cruise on Lake Ohrid. There's a bar on board where they make mixed drinks, so we make the second part of the cruise more scenic with a cocktail in hand.

The cruise lasted about two hours. We arrived back after dark. We get off the boat and Ala goes to the toilet, but in the meantime the crew has locked it and Ala is banging on the door trying to get out of this trap. We leave the pier and just like yesterday there are a lot of people around. We are not in the mood to fight through these crowds anymore and we go back to our accommodation and sleep. Tomorrow we will move to Albania.
